Lagrange Elementary School Addition and Renovation – Lagrange, NC

The building contained 32,000 SF of classroom space, 5000 SF of dining area, 3000 SF of new kitchen space, and the balance being office, mechanical, electrical, corridors, etc. The new cafeteria serves as the auditorium for the entire school. The classrooms have casework, visual display boards, sinks, and restrooms. The dining area has a wood stage with motorized projection screen, large curtain wall entrance storage areas, and two serving lines. The kitchen is fully equipped with dry storage, cooler and freezer, dishwashing room, and general cooking areas. The whole project consisted of the demolition of two existing parking areas totaling 63,500 SF and associated landscaping and signage. Also, two existing school buildings totaling 53,600 SF, which contained asbestos, were removed as well. Coordination of the site-work was critical to maintain safety and access to the construction site. One new 40,000 SF parking area was constructed by Aug. ’07 for the start of the school year and another 30,000 SF parking area was constructed at the end of the project. The new building addition was built in twelve months.
